Technically "yes it does". However the increase would be too small to measure in real world terms. Only reason that it would use a "tiny fraction" more fuel is that the fan motor that blows the air is electric and because it draws electricity that tiny bit of added drag on the alternator used to make the electricity for it would increase fuel consumption. With the fan turned "off" of course the alternator doesn't have to produce the electricity to run it. You would probably never be able to measure the difference though with regular measuring equipment and certainly not by simply calculating your own mileage at the pump. The "heat" comes from the engine coolant that is heated by the engine regardless of whether you use any to warm yourself or not. So go ahead and run it all you want to. You will never notice the difference in mileage at all!!! :-)

If you really want to get technical, yes it would use a little bit more gas because of the amperage required. If you use your defroster and your car has AC, it will burn a little more gas. When you run your defroster, you are also turning the AC compressor.(but not with just the heater). Either way you will never really notice the difference over the comfort of the heat. If you want to watch your fuel mileage, make sure your tires are up to pressure, and your car is tuned up with a new air filter.

Not nearly enough to notice any difference in milage. When you are running the ac, the compressor has to turn and it puts a strain on the engine because it is belt driven. Your heater motor is electric, so technically, for it to turn it adds a little more demand on your alternator, which is belt driven as well. Long story short, it does technically take a little more gas, but I would say maybe a gallon of gas over 100k miles or something nearly as ridiculous. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

did you know when the heater of most cars is in the defrost position, it turns on the AC? And to be correct, if the car has to be running to operate the heater or AC, then yes it burns fuel :(

no it won't burn more fuel as the heat is always there from your engine coolant being hot and all you are doing is opening a valve to let the hot air into the car cabin.

No, Unless your running the front windshield defroster.
the heat that come from your air vents comes from the heat of the engine via your cooling system
