1.)solve. y-17=19.
a.-36 b.2 c.26 d.36
On this one the answer is B. 19-17=2 which is Y.
2.)solve. 4n=-2.
a.6 b.2 c.-2 d.-1/2
On this one the answer is D
3.)solve b-3b=24
a.-8 b.-12 c.12 d.-6
B because you have to substitute numbers with neg and pos.
4.)solve 2m=1 - m
a.1/3 b.2 c.1 d.3
5.)Arthur weighs 34 lb more than Lily.Their combined weight is 180 lb less than four times Lily's weight.How much does Arthur weigh?
a.141 lb b.151 lb c.107 lb d.127lb
Now Im going to let you do the rest, but keep in mind that on these problems, use the provided multiple choices to find the real answer to them. You have to try all the numbers sometimes. Good luck!

1) y-17=19
y=19+17
y= 36 (d)
2) 4n=-2
n=-2/4
n=-1/2 (d)
3) b-3b=24
-2b=24
b=24/-2
b=-12 (b)
4)2m=1-m
2m+m=1
3m=1
m= 1/3 (a)
5) L+34=A
Lx4= L+A+180
L+A= Lx4-180
L+ (L+34)=Lx4-180
2L+34=Lx4-180
34+180= 4L-2L
214=2L
214/2=L= 107 (c)

1. y-17=19
y= 17+19 (cuz when i make 17 change opposite sides the interger changes)
y= 36
2. 4n=-2
n= -2 divided by 4
n= -0.5
3. b-3b=24
-3b+b=24
-2b=24
2b=-24
b= -24 divided by 2
b=-12
4. 2m=1-m
-1=-2m-m
-1=-3m
1=3m
m=1/3
5. x-34=y (1)
x+y= 4y-180 (2)
(1) -> (2)
x+(x-34)=4(x-34) - 180
x+x-34=4x-136-180
2x-4x=-34-136-180
-2x=-350
2x=350
x=175
x=175 -> (1)
x-34=y
175-34=y
141=y
x=175
y=141
so hes weighs 141 lbs.
(i think i went wrong in 5. check it. )

This is basic basic stuff. The one rule is, what you do to one side you do to the other. If you are trying to find y in #1 you have to get it by itself on one side so you have to get rid of 17. Since its "-17" you add it to both sides and it becomes y-17+17=19+17 simplify and your answer is 36.
If you don't grasp this you should not worry because you will have to at one point, there are no other math classes for you to take that are any easier.

1) D
add the17 to both sides to get y = 36
2) D
divide by 4 on both sides to get n = -2/4, simplify to -1/2
3) B
simplify b-3b to get -2b, divide both sides by -2 to get -12
4) A
add m to both sides (to cancel the -m on the right), to get 3m = 1, divide both sides by 3 and you get m = 1/3
5) sorry i need paper for that and i cant get that right now.
