ok so i am 13yrs old, and recently i have been to the doctor for my cold ,and so anyways i asked my doctor about this knot on the back of my carterlidge piercing, my piercing had also closed up so know it feels like a knot on the back of my cartlidge and the doctor said that it wasn't a keliod. plus it doesn't look like one becasue it looks kinda like a puss bump or something. my question is do you or have you heard of something like a keliod? but in time will heal because i really wanna know if this thing will go away. thanks for ur advice!

Another reason NOT TO GET PIERCINGS in unusual places!
If the doctor says it's not a keloid, then it's not.
Sounds like hardened sebum. This happend after the piercing when all the "goo"instead of draining ;formed a hard mass. This is the body's way of isolating foriegn matter and sorta building a wall of scar tissue around it. If u cut it off it will probably contain bits of bone & puss. A benign cyst i think it's called.

Chances are the bump you have in not a keloid but rather a hypertrophic scar. Keloids are scar tissue that expand well beyond the area of injury and kind of heap up. They're more common in African Americans, but can occur in anyone. It's not exactly known why they occur.

Hypertrophic scars are just widened scars with extra collagen deposition. In the case of a piercing, it might be just a thick scar throughout the piercing tract.

If the bump is new, red, warm to the touch, or draining fluid then in might be an infection, though I'll bet your doctor would have picked up on this if this is the case.
