Guild Wars looks similar to WoW because it was developed by the people who created Diablo 2, who would have undoubtedly worked on WoW if they hadn't left Blizzard and started their own company.
GW is a game based on co-operative play. You have the option of doing your missions with other players or with NPC's called henchmen. Each player has his/her own skill set to bring to a party, whether its for exploration, quests, or missions. You're only allowed to have 8 skills at a time and the highest level in the game is 20. It seems kinda lame at first but with each level comes attribute points and you use attribute points to make certain skills more powerful. You don't want to die in one hit in a player vs. player battle because of their insane power level. *lol* There are 10 professions in all, 6 core professions and 2 new professions in Factions and Nightfall. You choose your characters profession during character creation and later on are able to take a secondary profession. Later in the game you will be able to change your secondary profession whenever you want. Storywise, GW has a long story that crosses all 3 games. It just gets bigger and bigger and more interesting. The biggest difference from other online rpgs is that you don't meet other players outside of towns. Outside areas are created specifically for you and your party. So there are always plenty of chests to open and monsters to kill.

Guild Wars isn't your typical "grind-to-level" game.
Guild Wars (Prophecies) and each expansion of the game (Factions and Nightfall) have their own storyline. However, combined, they create chapters of different adventures that you must under take.
You are placed as the hero who will journey through each stage of chaotic events (compulsory quests and missions) in order to go through the storyline and defeat evil that is plaguing the land.
In addition, you also have the option to complete secondary quests, which will help greatly with achieving higher levels and even skills, and other rewards. As said at the beginning, this game does not rely on grind-training to advance in level.
Apart from PvE, PvP is also a big part of this game. You can enter arenas and compete against other players for a fun battle.
Guilds can also compete against each other for higher ranks on the Guild Ladders, and for favor of the gods. This gives the winning guild and all other guilds under the same nationality access to exclusive explorable areas.
Also, depending on which you are currently playing, Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall, you complete the chapter for that storyline. If you have any other expansions, you can transfer your existing character over to the next expansion and begin the new chapter. There is no need to make a new character to begin a new expansion unless you decide to.

well it is more like diablo/diablo 2 in my opinion than world of world craft or everquest but still very similar...things are a lot more simple in guild wars when compared to an epic game like everquest. its more of a quick fast paced game, worth playing at least for a little while if you havn't tried it yet.

guildwars (proph) can be hard when you dont have the other 2 i personaly didnt like the first campain(proph) at all i liked factions best and would recomend it as the first one to get if you get any at all
factions is kind of a japaniese kind of thing going on while nightfall is more african and proph seems like an american thing(to my freinds to me it seems like its kinda random)
overall i like all 3 campains but nightfall is really hard and it gets anoying factions has many elites just waiting there and they aint that hard to get but proph was left out if you ask me there isnt much very good about this campain just a few good wepons
so if your not geting them all at the same time id recomend starting with factions
~hope this helps
