We are God's most beloved creations. For those who believe in God this is obvious on the face of it. We are the highest order in creation. We are the smartest. We are the most dominant. We are the ones who have the greatest ability to impact creation itself. As far as when human beings began believing in their place at the center of creation, it goes back to the very beginning with Genesis. It is God who says that we are in His own image and that all things are created for our good. Now, I realize that this is a silly answer to anyone who doesn't believe in God, but it is the obvious one for those who do. For the sake of argument, however, let us approach this from the standpoint of a non-believer. If there truly is no god, then that means that everything we say about God is fiction created by man. If God is a creation of man, then not only is man at the center of God's universe, but God is at the center of the fictional universe created by man.

Human beings are God's special species - whether by evolution or by creation. Destruction and creation are possible only by human beings - No other creature destroys as much as humans do. No other creation creates as much as humans do.
If fear, anger, desire, and attachments can be controlled by one through awareness and self-knowledge the human becomes greater than God. No other Creation has the capability to develop awareness and self control.Self-centered human beings too have the same opportunity - but to know how to, is the secret mystery which is revealed to those who do want to evolve.

I think that God in creating Man somewhat overestimated his ability. We are gds special species, but gd is an underachiever I am afraid, so dont expect to much.

btw did you know that there about 30 million atheist in the US? Its more then the total number of Jews in the world but still a pathetic number. Atheism is right now where the gay movement was at about 40 years ago... its pathetic. We are all atheist in a clothes. To afraid to tell people that we are indeed atheist in the fear that we may insult their beliefs. But that is BS. The truth is that if you are an atheist then there is no way that you can actually respect any form of religion and you probably deep down inside understand that religion is worse then rape. And both of them are as decadent. Religion was an evolutionary process that was required to achieve our correct state of mental ability. But, so was rape a necessary step; have you wondered why males want to rape every beautiful female that crosses their path? Because it’s in all our genes! With out rape our species would have died out a long time ago. It was necessary to have rape so that there would be enough Homo Sapiens to survive the harsh times. However it is no longer needed to day. In fact, we have laws that prohibit this practice of something that is totally natural to us all. But yet something that is far worse and endangers us all we prohibit?

So now say it load and say it proud, I am an atheist and I am proud!

well, humans need to do a bit of work to overcome the relentless tyranny of the ego, eh? this requires a bit of curiosity and insight relating to attempting to discover what being human is all about, and what true human potential is, rather than settling for the programming happily provided by "the culture" ;-)

I'm pretty sure it started when monotheism was created.

(Polytheism and animism are kinds of religion, but they don't tend to overinflate the human ego like the personal gods of monotheistic beliefs.)

I think it was mostly when humans began feeling themselves above nature, easily destroying their surrounding environments for land and resources instead of respecting it. (See the differences between the Native Americans, who respected nature with animistic beliefs, and the Europeans, who mindlessly destroyed environments with the idea that their Roman-Catholic God was above all others.)

Who says animals aren't self centered? The reason why animals don't believe that they are gods is because they haven't conceptualized gods yet.

wow, that made me laugh. great point. i'm not any religion at all so i don't believe that i'm one of god's special people. (notice how i don't capitalize god).
i saw an episode of trading spouses and there was a wife that was totally christian and one that was just like me. the christian wife was totally crazy. she pushed her religion onto the other family so much that she didn't even care about how they felt about how the others felt.
i'm respect everyone's choice in what they believe in, but when you want to force it onto someone then you're disrespecting what you believe in yourself.
to tall you the truth, i wanted to smack that christian lady and her mom in the face for being so rude and not respectin.

as far as since when people started to think that way, i dunno know dude, it's been going on for ages. and its retarded too.

Yes, we are driven by pride and greed. Ever wonder why that is?
The Bible says that the Flesh and the Spirit war with each other.
So which is right, and which wins?
The one you feed the most.
