No it does not take the mileage off. That is an old wife's tail about driving in reverse to take mileage off.
A long time ago you might have been able to do that but not since the late forties early fifties.

50 years ago that worked. But in the 60s they fixed that so the odometer would go forward in reverse too.

In some european and japanesse cars yes. I had a 1982 Land Cruiser and once I had to climb a hill in reverse. It did take mileage off.

No! In the old days it may have been possible with mechanical odometers.

I tried it, but it does not work...just like in Farris Buellers Day Off....It still goes up in mileage in reverse :(

It worked in the sixties and seventies but now they have electronic speedometers so it won't work.
