Someone who is feminine is a person who exudes what are traditionally considered womanly qualities such as grace, politeness, and compassion. A feminist is someone, not necessarily a woman, who seeks equal rights and respect for women.

A feminine woman enjoys being a woman, and knows that men and women are different so that they can compliment each other, not compete with each other. A Feminist acts like a poor parody of a man, in search of some sort of impossible "sameness" which she names "eek-wallet-ee." She can't be a man, because she's NOT a man, and this frustrates her. So she begins to HATE men, because she envies them. Feminism is penis-envy writ large.

Feminine
This is typically a quality of a noun (person, place, thing, or idea). Someone can be described as feminine, or the design of something can be feminine, etc. Usually, it entails being delicate, curvy, embellished, colorful, etc.
Feminist
This typcially refers to a person who believes and supports ideals that involve female empowerment and advancement and whatnot. (I don't really know exactly what the feminist doctrine is) Feminist and Feminism also typcially refer to ideas that are part of the feminist doctrine.
The big difference is that one refers to a quality of something and one refers to a person's beliefs/political views or the person themself.

Feminists have many different and diverging ideas but central to them all is that there is sexual inequality between women and men and that this inequality is not natural but socially constructed - ie there is no real reason for women earning 50% less than men etc. They may point to the fact that in the UK girls typically outperform boys during primary and secondary education but that this is not represented in the job market where women are typically concentrated in low paid and insecure employment.
In other countries feminist may campaign for rights of women not be to physically abused, raped and murdered by their male partners of family members. They may campaign against female circumcision (the removal of the clitoris) and so on.
In the West there is still considerable female oppression - for example the different attitudes towards female and male sexuality; the different ways in which men and women who abandoned their children are treated and so on.
Feminine describes attitudes, behaviour and characteristics seen as stereotypically belonging to women.

I guess there are a lot of ways to tip toe around and use politically correct definitions to make sure no one gets offended... but I'll let someone else do that. An honest, sexist, chauvinistic, probably offensive, and politically incorrect definition would be
Feminine: A woman who enjoys acting and being treated like a lady, and has accepted the fact that regardless of how liberated she becomes, she is still an object of sexual desire to a man, and is smart enough to take advantage of that fact.
Feminist: A woman who suffers from penis envy, lacks self confidence, and has taken 'women's liberation' to such a far fetched and distorted level that she couldn't turn a man on if she brought three of her friends and a suitcase full of sex toys with her.
As I said, sexist, chauvinistic, probably offensive, and politically incorrect... but you did say you were curious to see our answers.

When one thinks of femininity, grace, beauty and softness often come to mind. When one thinks of a feminist, one usually thinks of a fiercely independent woman, who fights to correct the imbalance between the two genders. It is my opinion that a woman can be both. As matter of fact, I find it ideal.

Comtessa, Wax, Elfreda, White Pointer, and Wildchild are correct. White Pointer & Wildchild made very good points as well. Many feminists are also very feminine. Just because one is a feminist does not make her less feminine. :-)

If you're feminine, you are just really girly. If you are a feminist, you actively support women's rights, and being equal to men, and all that. One is an adjective. The other's a noun.

Being feminine is being a woman. Being a feminist can be one of two things, it can be a woman who looks out for her rights and demands equal treatment and respect, or it can be an angry man hater who wants to totally eliminate everything that has to do with being a woman.
