Ha! ok ok ok, wait. FIRST of all, slavery led to racism. As far as psychological effects of slavery, you can see it today in the modern black community: Aversion to higher authority, displaced unity and cultural identity, feelings of being emotionally lost, anger issues, domestic issues, and so much more.

slavery was an economic institution that was practiced regardless. It was the slave trade in the Americas that brought an intercultural mix. While trying to justify the need of slavery, they brought their slaves down to the level of just "property" No social standing whatsoever. Hence, the inequality results and racism is born. The pattern is already imposed, through the longetivity of slavery, onto culture and developes into what we see as racism now. So to answer your question, it seems slavery was the cause of racism. To say otherwise undermines the origin of slavery--which existed regardless of race. Also side note: the chronological sequences of literature or works with racist undertones will also indicate the majority of them came after slavery--providing another point toward the idea that slavery was a predecessor of racism.

Racism didn't lead to slavery. Slavery was first and foremost an economic endeavor. And initially it was not racially based! Slavery as we know it in the Americas was based on racism, economics and power & control.
The pychological effects of racism were and are far-reaching. Like terrorism, slavery sought to control by physical and mental ways the oppressed. If you can control a slaves' environment you can control their thoughts and actions. Self-concept, self-esteem, confidence, outlook on life, goal-orientation and socialization are all affected by the institution of slavery.
Not to mention the effects on culture, family structure, legacies, etc. Even though chattel slavery is not widely practiced now, economic slavery is the new form of institutional control of the masses.

Racism didn't lead to slavery. The need for cheap labor for the expanding sugar plantations of the new world led to slavery. After the Amerindian population had been decimated by disease, Africans were the next to be exploited (both by Europeans and African elites). African slaves worked better particularly because they had already been exposed to the diseases that wiped out the native population of the Americas.
In America racism was created as a way of keeping free blacks and poor whites from joining forces against the white elites who perpetuated the plantation system. It was used after the civil war as a way to maintain the economic/political status quo. Ever notice how the rednecks who lynched African Americans where usually just as poor and ignorant as their victims?
Psychological affects? How would you feel if I separated you from you family, raped your sister, sold your children, destroyed your culture, and treated you like property you entire life?

Racism probably had the effect of demeaning a different race, giving the thought that one is better than the other, in this way the perpetrators of the racist thought would feel superior to the peoples being subjugated. The same way religious denominations do with each other, or religions themselves do. Racism and slavery are a product of man kinds ignorance of true understanding of a devine creator. All men are equal, and women. It is simply those ignorant of the Creators unconditional Love who do these childish acts. You can only pity a person who believes he will find God's love through these and other atrocities. Those who follow the simple teaching of ( Love thy Creator with all of your heart. And treat each other as you would want to be treated) who can understand how some of mankind can be led into the mindset of justification to murder, rape, slavery. they are those who are afraid of God. they fear that which only loves them. And they follow people of evil intent.People claiming to speak for God. They only speak for their own ego. and some could say they are driven by Satanic logic. In time all lies as seen within the light of understanding. Slavery and racism are signs of social decay, spiritual ignorance, and Satanic direction.

First of all, It wasn't racism that led to slavery but slavery that led to racism. The original prospect of slavery was get people to work for you without pay. after slaves were eventually freed other people thought that because you or your fancestors were slaves you shouldn't be treated like other non enslaved peoples.

Viewing blacks as not "people" led to the idea that they could be owned as animals. (in many cultures women are also "owned" like animals and considered property).
i cannot address the psychological aspects. that topic is just too big.
