mac say you don't need it , and the reason why is because they use the 1394 adapter, which is done by a firewire , which are more secure than ethernet cards

To date, there have been no Mac viruses spotted in the "wild". All have been "proof of concept" ones where you have to intentionally put in your password and run it.
I'd leave out the anti-virus software. I've had 3 Macs across a lot of years and I haven't received a single virus. That might change but as of now there's nothing to worry about. Just use your head.

Yes.. it is badly needed... to include FIREWALL.. Virus protection PLUS firewall... Some people use Macafee(I hate them) and others(as I) use Norton.. I also hate it and think(know) that it is slowing down my machine so when my year is up on Norton, I am changing to a different one called kaspersky.com or another one called trendmicro.com... The computer school where I go state both are good and better than Macafee or Norton.. I am going to check both of them out to make sure

As the old saying says "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
Make sure your mac has all the latest security updates. Mac released updates, last week, to fix several security flaws.

if your pc has anti-virus on it already than you will need to uninstall that if you want a different one.
as having two on same pc will cause conflicts.
best options are norton, mcafee, or bitdefender.
people on here will push avg or avast but there protection is lacking.
