Have not heard anything about the Yankees trying for Zito, but the other New York team is interested. Hope the Mets prevail.

Wang, Johnson Pavano, Mussina. I don't think they are really trying. They need help in the bullpen first and secondly they may try to get rid of A-Rod for say Crede and Garcia in a trade with the Chi Sox if they want another starter. Zito may still end up in New York though with then Mets. Rick Peterson is there pitching coach and has know Zito and his father since he was a boy. The Dodgers are the other team in contention for his services

I think they have no need for him right now. They already have 5 starters not to mention atleast 4 prospects that are major league ready so Zito is not in their plans for the future. Shame too i was really hoping they would have made a run for him.

No, and they are not even trying. They do not feel that Zito is an ace pitcher and isn't worth the money he is asking. He supposedly has lost some velocity off his already average fastball and his curve doesn't have the snap that it did. I do not think they are even trying, and are focusing on only Andy Pettitte, who is proven in New York.

No and I don't think that they want him. !00 millions or more for 6-7 years is a lot of dough for a pitcher who's fallen off in recent years. I would hope that the Yankees sign Igawa and Pettite. Lefties do well in the Stadium. Let Boston or the Muts spend on what mediocre talent is left.

No. Rangers have offered him $102 mil over 6 years. Neither the Mets or Yankees will top that.

I recently read that they are close to a deal with andy petitte and while zito is younger petitte's strikeout to walk ratio is higher and he has proven himself in New York already.
