As previously mentioned, centipedes like places where there's plenty of moisture lots of humidity. Try to keep the house and outside area as dry as possible.

These insects overwinter as adults and lay eggs during the warm months. Their eggs are laid in the soil and protected by adults living outdoors are found in rotting wood, compost piles, mulch, wood chips, leaves, etc. If possible, try removing those places that provide moist hiding areas. Use caulking to seal up any cracks and crevices where they can enter your home.

For outdoor, spray a protective barier throughly soaking the soil in a five-foot band around the house. Spray the sides of the house up to 3 feet, the doorways and other openings. If you have mulch, you'll need to spray followed with water to help move the insecticide down into the soil.

Insecticides such as propoxur(known as Baygon), bendiocarb(known as Ficam) or carbaryl(known as Sevin) give the fastest knockdown compared to the other groups of insecticides. Try mixing in a permethrin-based product to help get them exposed and moving into treated areas.

You may need to re-treat every 7 to 10 days.

GOOD LUCK!

Try getting a dehumidifier for the basement, if that's where you're seeing them. They'll probably come up into the rest of the house, but this should cut back on their numbers.

We've always had them ever since we've been in our house. Not to many, though, so it's not too bad. They don't bite or anything.

you need to apply a residual pesticide that will be absorbed when they cross over the area. If in doubt, please call a professional. Do not fool around with either pesticides or centipedes - they both put people in the hospital here in Barbados.

centipedes seem to like damp places, I guess if you just try to avoid having dark damp places for them to hide
