okay...this is my 2nd pregnancy, but I have forgotten so much. I have had a terrible cold, sinus infection type thing going on. I had a Dr.'s appointment yesterday and forgot to ask (they are closed today) if using over the counter nose spray is ok. The active ingrediant is Oxymetazoline HCI 0.05%. It is just a nasal decongestant. Do you think there is any problems with that?

I have chronic sinus problems and I am 8 months along.........my Dr said I can use the nose spray in moderation but he said that they do increase heart rate and only to use them is absolutely necessary. I save it for right before I go to bed. I sleep better with it. My Dr said I can use sudaphed, benedryl or Claritin for during the day.

I actually saw this on Discovery channel this morning. A show called "Pregnancy for Dummies" was on & they were talking about increased nasal congestion during pregnancy. The doctor on the show said that using a nasal spray once in a while is perfectly safe. The only drawback is that your nasal passages could become "addicted" to the nasal spray, but this is just as likely to happen when you're not pregnant. I've been using Afrin Sinus spray for a week now (I'm 35 weeks) -I've had a really bad cold with nasal congestion. My midwife said that if it was so bad that it was keeping me up at night to go ahead and use it. Hope you feel better soon!

bypass get saline drops. Afrin is undesirable for you regardless of being pregnant, thats why you preserve employing it in view which you're no longer in a position to breath devoid of it. you're no longer meant to apply it for a magnificent determination days.... otherwise it motives dependance. Saline drops will help you get off the afrin and are risk-free in being pregnant. in terms of risk-free practices it particularly is a classification C * learn on animals tutor adverse result and toxicity on fetus. * No sufficient and nicely controlled learn carried out on pregnant females. * drugs would desire to acquire on condition that the potential benefit outweighs the potential possibility to the fetus. i'm effective females have used it besides the fact that it particularly is maximum suitable to be prevented.

NOT SAFE! Oxymetazoline is an antihistimine. Can also raise blood pressure. Not safe for baby.

Call a pharmacist. I'd stick to saline solution, though.
