Personally, I think that we deserve a good break from the "Star Trek" universe. I'm not a Trekkie, just a fan of the original series, TNG and DS9. I believe we've become too saturated with all things "Trek."

I think it will return in some form or fashion within the next few years. The franchise did need a break, especially when the airwaves had so much airing at the same time, including reruns of the older series.

Some of you mentioned that the latest series "Enterprise" flopped. Although it did not have the longevity of more recent series like TNG, DS9, and Voyager, it was on the air for 4 years, one year more than the original series. Maybe not as successful as the others, but for any TV series to be on the air for 4 years is quite an accomplishment. Many don't even last a year. And the series had its moments; it wasn't all bad. I especially like the two-parter set in the evil "Mirror, Mirror" universe, with those episodes having their own dark opening credit sequences much more different than the "Faith of the Heart" opening prevalent in the rest of the series.

As for the one who suggested a new Space 1999 series, I don't really think there would be much demand for that, as good as the show may have been. How many Space 1999 conventions have you been to? Or even the suggestion of a big screen adaptation. They would obviously have to do something about the title since we're well past 1999.

All that being said, I believe we haven't heard the last from the Star Trek universe.

Enterprise bombed and I think Voyager didn't do well even with the hype. They should wait a decade or two before they start up the Trek franchise. Maybe they can restart the Space 1999 franchise. That was a good show.

i think of it must be executed with the wonderful writers. i think of certainly one of firms mess ups is they tried to make it out as "no longer yet another celeb trek" and that it got here in the previous the unique sequence. i actually hated the thought the particularly some "firsts" that Captain Kirk and Jean-luc Picard encountered have been now no longer firsts if business enterprise is canon. In my hassle-free opinion i do no longer think of something will beat the unique sequence or next technology, yet they could definately get lower back heading in the right direction in the event that they did no longer make an excellent style of errors and in the event that they listened to celeb trek followers as a substitute of attempting to attraction to a pair new objective marketplace that would not care.

I agree, love the originals but was worn out by the movies especially when the brought Spock back to life. I've read nothing about any pending movies or series so I hope you are right, there is only so much that can be done and its been done. I feel the same about Superman, Spider man and several others although I'd love to see another " Indianan Jones", but only with Harrison.

I think after the last series flopped Star Trek has run it's course. SciFi channel has done a great job in bringing alt shows to us.

TV won't have anything new for a while, but they do have a new film in the works. Last I heard it was going to be a "prequel" type movie taking place with the original crew (new actors/actresses) that is to be set during the original "5 year voyage"
