I had two interviews, and I feel really good about the job. I feel 80% sure that they are interested in me. But its been 5 weeks since the original interview, 3 weeks since the last. I called the HR person last week, and she said she was hoping to have an answer for me by end of week (last friday). I'm dying to get out of my current job!! How soon should I call to follow up? Should I even call or should i just wait. She said they hired a temp for the position in the meantime... wtf?

A follow-up call is always nice. Just don't overdo it. It shows the employer that you're really interested in the job and that you're aggressive enough to call. Don't pester them too much though. I'd say once a week or so.

Call once, be really nice about it and say something approximately like you understand it takes a while to make a decision, you just wanted to make sure they weren't forgetting about you. Remind them to call you right away if they have any questions about your background. Don't call more than once and don't sound too demanding. The hiring process can take longer than everyone thinks, try to be patient.

I would follow up with a thank you letter. Thank them for the interview and advise that you look very forward to hearing from them. But if they do not give you an answer move on and keep interviewing! Most companies leave you dangling because they are to scary to give a straight answer.

if its a high profile position they may take longer than most

If they didn't call when they said they were I'd call them back, its not hounding if they 'forget' :)

and besides if they don't call you, they're probably not going to hire you, so you have very little to lose

I would most certainly call again...it's shows your eager and still interested in the position....Don't over call though it will make you seems desperate and annoying...Good Luck

call! call and bother, as my mom put it.

I would not hound them... maybe call them this Firday and see if she know anything yet.

I can appreciate your excitement, but I would keep searching... and would not make it mean anything... Good luck!
