The short answer:
A lawyer is an individual licensed to practice law. A lawyer is also an attorney for his/her clients. An attorney would generally an attorney at law (lawyer). There are are also attorneys in fact. An attorney in fact (agent) is an individual authorized to act as the representative of another outside of court who may or may not be an attorney. Or put another way; a lawyer is an attorney, but not all attorneys are lawyers. Common usuage is to overlap the terms however.

An attorney is a person who is usually over-educated with no common sense. He was taught to take as much money from his clients and do as little work as possible. He will take pay-offs from anybody as long as his pockets are being well lined. In other words an attorney is a person with no social conscience and no moral values
