Another postage question....Are there any rules for what can be mailed for .39 cent postage in a regular envelope. The average piece of mail probably weighs less than an ounce. I have a standard sized envelope that weighs a little more than 3 ounces...is that okay? Or do I need to pay more for the postage?

By regular sized envelope I mean the size you would receive a card in that would normally just take one stamp.

In order to qualify for the .39 rate the envelope must be NO more than 1oz in weight, and the dimensions no more than 6 1/8 in.high by11 1/2 long . if your envelope is within these dimensions AND weights NO MORE than 3oz ,then the rate will be .87. For more info ,or questions go to www.usps.com look under frist class letters!!! if you want to buy stamps to put on you letter ,buy 1- .39 and 2 - .24= .87 . the rate for 3oz to 4 oz is 1.11. Check out the rates at the USPS website and DON'T guess !!!!!!

Better to be safe than sorry. When I'm in doubt, I always slap an extra stamp on for good measure. It's just to make sure it doesn't come back, 'cause then I have to start all over again. I think it's the Postal Services little way of scaring us into buying more stamps. Whenever I go to the Post Office to mail something, they always try and "hustle" me into buying more stamps, and they're real cool about it. The lady says, "Will you be needing any stamps today?" and she looks at me REALLY serious, like I BETTER BUY THOSE STAMPS before they raise the price again...
