I am tired of Sprint overcharging and saying- oh well about it. I need a plan that will not have hidden costs. Is anyone from around Maryland or North Carolina that has had experience with the Cingular service and or their customer service? Please tell me all the good and bad that you have had with their phones/network/service. Thank you!

I subscribe to consumer reports online, and Cingular didn't do well at all in the Washington DC area - it was ranked dead last out of the 4 carriers they tested.

Unfortunately they don't have rankings for North Carolina/Maryland border area, but here's what they said about areas not covered by them:

If you live in an area that’s not covered by the Ratings:

Where their service is available, Alltel and Verizon are worth considering, based on their generally better call connectivity and customer satisfaction in the metropolitan areas covered by our Ratings. Those two carriers, along with T-Mobile, also did well on service factors beyond call quality: Customers reported less trouble contacting and getting help from them and had fewer serious or persistent billing problems.

EDIT - I just noticed this new section on their website - hope it helps!

Cingular-
How good Middling to low levels of consumer satisfaction. Static and busy circuits were widespread problems, as they have been in our previous surveys. Relatively low marks for helpfulness in handling customer questions and complaints.

Networks Primarily GSM, some TDMA and analog. Most GSM phones can also be used overseas

I use Cingular in New Jersey (not far north from Maryland). I usually get a good signal, don't have dropped calls (I used to constantly drop calls when I had Sprint service in Pennsylvania). A big benefit of Cingular is that you can carry forward unused anytime minutes for upto one year. I think that Cingular is good.

I am not in the MD or NC area but I can give you my experience with Cingular. I originally purchased my cell phone from AT&T wireless. Shortly after I purchased my phone and started a contract, Cingular purchased AT&T wireless. After about a year, my phone began having problems. I talked to the customer service people at Cingular and they would not replace my phone. In fact, they would not even sell me another phone to go with my contract. The only option they "could" give me was to purchase one of their phones and restart my contract. Since they were charging me about $15 more per month than my wife was paying with Alltel, I just dealt with the problems and dropped them the day after the contract expired. I did found it quite amusing when I made the call to cancel the service and the service rep tried to get me to stay with Cingular. After I told him of my experience and my impression of Cingular, there was lots of silence....followed by the rep finishing the call as fast as possible.
For anybody looking for cellular service, I would recomend any company EXCEPT Cingular.

Cingular having issues? that occurs each blue moon, if that. Out of all of the telephone businesses i've got had, Cingluar has been the main suitable out of all. sprint has too lots disconnected calls and T-cellular has undesirable shopper provider. i desire each little thing comes out stable for you and your in a position to refund your cash in the long-term.
