The principal called with concerns about him drawing pictures of penis etc and then taping them to stuffed animals in the appropriate places. He went to the school nurse yesterday for wax for his braces and came back to class and made them into more male anatomy. I don't know what is going on in his mind.

He's just a kid learning about that stuff. He's in the part of his life where it's interesting. when I was that age, my friends and I talked about it all the time. we shared stuff that our older siblings told us and looked up "dirty" words in the dictionary. Tell him there is a time and a place and if he has any questions you will answer them. good luck though, he probably won't want to talk to you about it. Sorry to say.

That's kinda funny! Hehe... He probably wonders why the stuffed animals don't have any and he thinks they should have one. Do you have any daughters? Is it possible he doesn't know that boys and girls are different in this respect? I don't know, I would just ask him about it and let him know what is appropriate in school, at home, around adults, and around other children.

It reminds me of a similar story. A few years ago I was working at a museum summer camp. Everyday there was an after camp daycare for the children whose parents couldn't pick them up right after camp. We would do arts & crafts with them and play games... Well, there was this cute boy, I think he was about 6 years old. One day, the head teacher caught him explaining to the other young children how Mommies and Dadies make babies, using toy animals as examples. (His parents had thought it was a good idea to be completely honest with him about how these things were done from the first time he asked - they just hadn't remembered to explain to him that not all parents feel the same way and he shouldn't be sharing this scientific fact with the children at summer camp.) Anyway... all of us assistants at summer camp were a bit stunned when we found out what he had done, but in the end, no harm was done. :o)

From what I recall that is perfectly normal for a boy of that age range. If he isn't making jokes with the pictures then my guess is he is just trying visualize a part of the body he doesn't see as often as most parts. It is not a sign he is going to be homosexual or anything to worry about so do not worry and get use to boys being a bit strange at times :-)

That is really funny. I would not worry about it. When I was a kid I would draw pictures of murdered people. I used to lick red pencils so the color would run like blood. I also used to build models out of clay and fill them with organs and then I would push projectiles through them so I could see how their insides would come out. And after all of this I am normal, I have not hurt anyone.

Well, I would imagine only you can answer that question. Have you had any issues since then? Ever contemplated killing anyone or anything like a cat or dog? I mean really thought about it. Heck, I think alot of people at some point or another have thought about pushing someone off a cliff or down a deeeeeeep well!! Does that make them mentally unstable or abnormal? Heck no. JMO.

Are you letting your child watch or see certain picutres? Is he just now discovering his body? Is he in some kind of care that would enable an adult to violate his body?

If this continues you should take him to counseling.

I was molested as a child and since that time was more and more curious about human sex organs. Not to scare you but all these things should be looked into.

First off he is absolutely normal. Nine year old boys live for anatomy and bathroom jokes, BUT you have to teach him what is appropriate and where. He probably has lots of questions and thus his fascination with it. Answer the questions, demystify it and the behavior will end.

Have you ever talked to him about purberty and sex?
If you haven't, I think its time.

When I was 8, I wasn't like intrested in it but i'd laugh at it.
Like yeah looking at dirty words in the dictionary like penis or breast made me and my friends giggle, but I didn't fully know about sex until when I was 10 I caught my parents in MY room.
It was terriying for me to find out about sex that way. So my mom had the talk with me, and I was releaved (except that I saw the example in my parents, ugh!).

Just ask him why he draws them.
He must be curious why its even on his body and not on girls, lol.

I'm sure he is just fine. But, just in case, and since you are his mother, please talk to him and/or make sure that nobody in his life could possibly be harming him and he's trying to communicate in this indirect way. Good luck.
