How does a man develop a pot belly, even though he exercises almost everyday? Also, when a man develops a pot belly, does that mean he has to get a bigger belt and bigger pants?

I was just wondering this because Barry Manilow mentioned he had a pot belly and I could tell that he has a big one, but his belt loop looks about the same size as when he was skinny.

Sorry, but I had to address this.
Doing sit ups and crunches won't help you keep off a pot belly.

You can't simply work one area and expect to lose fat. A sit up is simply an exercise, meant to burn calories. You have to lose fat everywhere to lose it anywhere.

Ever see a person with a six pack and three chins?

It has to do with genes ,if the man in your family have a tendency to develop a pot belly than you will get one too unless you watch your diet and exercise. Many times a pot belly hangs over the belt so the beltsize stays the same

A pot belly is can be caused by several possible factors. Diet, exercise and age are the most obvious. If you are not getting enough fiber in your diet, your stomach may have a potbelly appearance. Make sure you are eating right - minimize saturated fats, eat a good supply of whole grains, lots of fresh fruits and veggies, drink lots of water. Performing a variety of abdominal exercises can keep your muscles strong. Work on both transverse abdominus and rectus abdominus! Also, balance abdominal exercises with low-back exercises to ward off injury. There are tons of exercise videos that can help you get a great abdominal workout, but remember that eating right is just as important.

A pot belly is caused by one of two things, malnutrition which in 99.9% of cases can be ruled out. The other is caused by excessive liquid intake of the alchol (beer) kind. Plus lack of exercise. Belt size very seldom alters as your waist stays the same. Only your belly is growing.
