i just deliverd november 12. I went today for a postpartum visit and it has only been three weeks. it seemed kind of early to me. anyway they asked me a bunch of question about my delivery, if i had the blues ect. they checked my breasts and my belly to see if uterus went down and it was all good. but i had two stitches and they did not check me down there. they asked if i was still bleeding and i am on and off very slightly and i told them i was still a little sore and she said i could have sex whenever i feel comfortable but usually to wait six weeks. were they supposed to check me down there because i am not going back now for three months when i get my next birth control shot.

As long as all the questions that you answered, had good answers theres no reason for them to check "down there". Usually between 2-3 weeks is your post pardum check up. After 6 weeks is the norm for sex. You will find that you are feeling much better even by next week! Congrats on your new baby!!

usually, you don't see your OB until 6 weeks after delivery, however, all doctors have a tendency to do things somewhat differently.

you seem concerned, so call the office and ask them if you should come back once you're 6 weeks postpartum. if they say it isn't necessary, then ask them why. they should be able to tell you why they aren't following the "norm".

also, i wanted to thow out the idea of the Mirena IUD. i just had my 6 week postpartum and my doctor suggested it to me. he said that since i was married and had one child that i was the target candidate for an IUD. it's simple for the dr to insert and you have nothing else to do with it for up to 5 years! you can have it removed anytime, though, if you want to try for another baby sooner.
ask your OB about it. they should be able to recommend good birth control to you!

take care:)

6 weeks postpartum. They don't need to check down there unless there were complications. I had stitches down there too that were never checked. I guess your OBGYN can tell by the answers to their questions, how things are going. The stitches dissolve on their own, so there's no need to check if everything is going ok.

After 4-6 weeks but mostly after 6 weeks but it depends on what type of delivery you had. They check you lungs, breast, stomache and your private area because I had stiches also and they checked there to see if it healed well. My baby is now 7 weeks and 1 day old and she is a bundle of joy. Good luck with your new baby!!!!!

Usually between 4-6 weeks is the follow up. If you had c-section or stiches it is about 1-2 weeks ( for stiches/staple removel) and then a second follow up at the 4-6 week.

I'd say yes, that sounds a bit early to me....I had a visit about a week after just to make sure I was ok from the actual surgery, (I had a c-section) then again at 6 weeks. I think 6 weeks is the norm......

6 weeks!!!! Make a call to the doc. Tell them you want another check up at 6 weeks! I had 3 stitches and doc checked he said everything looked "great". -grin-

They will normally just take your word for it, they did the same at my post birth check up.
But mine was at six weeks :)

If you feel that you deserve a check up, go back and demand one.
Are you worrying about a possible infection? My midwife told me that to feel sore is normal, but if you feel like you are sitting on broken glass, you should get checked for infection :)

Congratulations on your baby!

Mine were at 6 weeks. From what I hear, that's pretty much the norm. 3 weeks does seem early.
