Why are there more females than males in the world???

Males die from X-linked diseases at a higher rate since they only have one X chromosome.

AND

Males die from suicide and homicide at a higher rate. This eliminates some of the extra baby boys that are born. 105 boys are born for every 100 girls worldwide.

Both these reasons stem from the fact that males are more evolutionarily expendable than females due to anisogamy

I think there is a slight edge in birthrate favoring females - but I think the reason that there are more living females than males is because men usually lead a more "risky" lifestyle. Almost all dangerous professions (miners, race car drivers, military, etc..) are usually done by men. I think the fact that men die more often (reflected by their shorter life expectancy) is what really contributes to the reason there are more females than males in the world more than anything else.

1. More boys than girls are born.
2. Boys are more susceptible to doing stupid things in childhood that cause death. (A couple of examples from my childhood: swinging hand over hand underneath the train bridge; crawling around on the none-too-stable roof of the recreation center).
3. Boys are more homicidal than girls. In my junior high school, (Luther Burbank Jr. High School, Los Angeles City Schools) one boy was beaten to death.
4. Boys and men are more prone to dying from diseases than girls.
5. One freshman boy was killed during a hazing incident when I was at college. No girls were killed that way.
6. Men continue doing things that get them killed in adulthood, including extreme sports and fighting wars in foreign countries. Fewer women are interested in doing those things.
7. Women live longer than men, and thus there will be more of them.
