I don't remember being taught that. What country did you go to school in?

First off, it is not easy to overthrow a government. First you must have enough individuals that strongly believe that the government is indeed stronger than the people. Then, those people would have to be persuaded that having such a strong government is a bad thing, and hopefully they would be the majority. If they are not the majority, then they would not make a strong enough impact to overthrow the government. However, I'm not sure why a school would teach you to overthrow your government in a democratic nation where we have the opportunity to work with our government to make it better, but I do however understand your viewpoint.

Because democracy is an attempt to make an overthrow of government a much more peaceful process. In the past, the only way to "overthrow" a government was to rebel and then kill the leader, then establish a new government.

Democracy attempts to make it much more peaceful by allowing the people to vote on it. If they vote out the incumbent, his government is "overthrown" and a new one put in its place. Which is what happened in Congress, the Republicans were "overthrown" and the Democrats put in place. And it was done peacefully. So in essence it is happening, just not with a bloody coup but with a peaceful voting and transition of power.

That would be the same as a revolution. In order to have a revolution, you need to have revolutionaries.

The people you think are dissatisfied with the system are simply talking the talk but can't walk the walk. Much less would they want to.

You would also need to have a majority of the population so dissatisfied with the government that they would being willing to overthrow it. That would be kind of hard unless you had the military in your back pocket. Be kind of hard to be a revolutionary with an FA 22 coming in for the kill.

Wow, where did you go to school? Historically, it has happened that people have become desperate enough to take back from their gov't...but there is no rule that says that it must happen. Revolutions happen when people get desperate. Americans have not become desperate enough. We still have food and shelter enough so that we feel as though we are not being oppressed enough to fight back. If that shifts though, it could happen. It would probably start with people refusing to pay their taxes though, not violence.

Great question, I think it's not happening due to the fact our government has evolved over the years into a irrational state, and people just don't care.

The Constitution does say that, BUT who's gonna start the revolution?

Because the government is protecting the people... and the election process is working...
