Do, say and think what YOU believe to be true and right.Never worry about weather others will respect you. The respect comes from doing what you believe right, standing up for your convictions and not being to proud to admit what you do not know and be willing to learn. If you want to learn that particular thing, as long as you do not try to impress by trying to fake knowledge where none is had.
Basically, be true to yourself and your Friends, forget about earning respect. This is the only way to gain true respect.
On that note some people confuse fear or buying things for people respect. They are foolish! Respect is so opposite of anything like that.

first you must respect yourself when people see that you have respect for yourself then others will automatically will do the same. maybe you don't assert your self well with people and you need to learn how to show people that you are a serious person and you need to be taken seriously . you can start by sticking to your words and being consistent in what you say and do and don't let any one change your way of thinking . when people see that you don't know what you want and who your are they start to disrespect you and not take your seriously. good luck and if you need help on this matter i have a group on yahoo called http://www.DIVASTYLES@yahoogroups.com i can help you and show you how to go about such matters hope to here from you

For starters, spell things out in proper English.
Seriously, if you can't be arsed to respect your audience enough to ask a question in actual words, you're not going to get much respect in return.
Respect is earned, which means you need to be a good, loyal friend, honor your promises and commitments, and treat people well. Do this, consistently, for the rest of your life, and they'll be lined up at your door.

Act as if you already have the respect of others. By that I mean, act in a respectful and respectable way so that even strangers will perceive you as respected.

Punch them in the face...lol no just kidding. Just be more mature. Dont let everyone walk all over you but know when to choose your battles. Dont gossip, and do what is expected of a mature responsible adult. It takes time, but eventual people will respect you.

For people to respect you and take you seriousy.You have to also respect youself and take yourself seriously.Like the saying goes,"respect is reciprocal".Also try respecting others.This might sound lame to but its the best way to get ur respect.
