It gets them votes.
EDIT-Michael F. Though you make me shudder in terror, I appreciate your honesty. May you never prevail. I doubt you will. I may check out your website, but without having done so I have to wonder exactly how you think you are NOT presuming to be better than anyone else? That you are more equipped to tell others how to live, and how to relate to one another. But you have the stones to say what you are and I do respect that.
Sounds Orwellian to me, sir.

Maybe because the Rich are rich because of the poor. Let's use a million dollars as an example. Maybe 10 people making a $100,000 dollars does more good for more people than 1 person making a million. Maybe the Rich persons philosophy of hiring 100 people for $10,000 dollars isn't considered a valuable opportunity for those 100 people. Why should a CEO receive 400% salary as compared to the lowest paid worker? Why shouldn't spending 8 hours of your day working for someone else entitle you to food, transportation, health-care, a home, and a couple dollars to spend on leisure? You give me a level playing field and I'll show you the benefits of Socialism.
Whatever the next step is, it's got to be forward and in a better direction than where were headed.
The belief that welfare is nothing more than a free handout to drug addicts, criminals, child producing whores, and those who work the system is retarded or neo-con--which ever you prefer to relate. The fact is that most people in need of assistance are created by the lack of a national health care system. One large medical bill can crush your credit and put you so far in debt that you and your benefactors will never have an equal opportunity to live the American Dream. One plant closing can devastate the economy of a local area. One stroke of the pen can take away rights that were acquired through years of oppression. Choose your battles with care!!

I agree with your thought. I see some people say they are humanitarians trying to make peoples life better and I understand your view now try to understand mine. When they take from people like me who work over 1500 hours overtime a year (with the OT being heavily taxed) to feed, educate, and in general raise people who refuse to work to help themselves how is that making my kids future better. When a large part of those tax dollars go to people who are breaking laws of this country how can we tell our kids that it is good to abide by the laws. I have worked since I was a preteen and have never taken more than 7 days without a job and I do this to pay for people who will not get a job or complete school if the Dem's have their way. I want my kids to be the benefactors of my many years of work as a law abiding citizen.

That is a very broad question. This is a Judeo-Christian based society in general and that offers a moral/ethical belief that we are obligated before God to care for the poor.
How we do that is debatable. The democrats tend to believe that taxing those who have and giving to those who have not will solve the problem.
My thoughts on this is that we have created generations of families that don't know how to raise themselves up and provide for their own families. You know the adage about giving a man a fish or teaching him how to fish, right? The democrats have made that mistake since social security and welfare was begun in the Great Depression, in hopes of taking care of people until the nation pulled out of the Depression. However, it was supposed to be a temporary program, and it became permanent.
So more and more money was thrown at the problem and it has encouraged the growth and maintenance of the problem rather than the elimination of it. Additionally, it has created a huge governmental bureaucracy that is a huge waste of funds.
That's my two cents.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Apparently you don't understand the definition of 'socialist'. Maybe this will help:
SOCIALISM:
"1 a :any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done"
As a staunch republican, I am embarrassed that individuals such as yourself have such a poor grasp of political ideals and give us a bad name.
Seeing as democrats do not own and run our factories, utility systems, hospitals or anything else that is publicly owned, it woud be impossible for them to be classified as socialists.
I assume from your obvious lack of education that being rich and overly taxed should not be one of your primary concerns.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. DSA's members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly socialist presence in American communities and politics.
At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. We are activists committed not only to extending political democracy but to demanding democratic empowerment in the economy, in gender relations, and in culture. Democracy is not simply one of our political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives. We call this vision democratic socialism — a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society.

Everyone is taxed. When I buy a gallon of milk, I pay taxes. When I get my pay check, there are taxes taken out. In April every U.S. working citizen has taxes due depending on your annual income. So, I ask you, why are most Republicans Fascists? I know that wasn't necessary, just an example of how stupid you sound.

Go a week without food or clean water and then post your question again.
I am one of the "overtaxed poor" but I still feel that I could go without the larger cable package so a single mother of four can feed her children. (And don't give me that keep your legs together crap, because that is not always the case....and even if it is, should her children suffer??)

To prevent uprising. The tiny bit the government does keeps the people from going Bolshevik. Plus, how much worthless crap do people need? And how does having it make you better than someone else? Society needs cooperation to function, so taxes do just enough to minimize class separations.

First off, democrats are refered to as the 'poor' party unlike the republicans. Why tax the poor and make them poorer???? If you tax the rich, then the poor can become somewhat richer. Well, for my family we are middle classed ppl, its not fair that rich people are taxed more but theirs polictics and bush for you. NO more BUll ****, impeach BUSH! Even though we supported him! They arent weapons of mass destruction, they are weapons of mass CONSTRUCTION!!!! Well, taxes. Cant live with em, cant live without them. Higher taxes, this stinks. Well, feed the poor! Nothing is for sure in life but DEATH and TAXES!
