Dear fellow arabs, do you think yahoo is supposed to make an arabic yahoo answers?
they already made customized y!answers for many countries like italy, china, singapore..etc, they even made a UK yahoo and they speak ENGLISH for cryin out loud.
we (arabs) have this advantage of speaking the same language, i mean many countries with one language (arabic) so why arabic isnt included in international y!answers? and we can write in both arabic or english then, or use arabic in english letter like we always wanna do, when we're talking about common sayings in the arab world.
many of us get reported for using an arabic word here, its unfair.
whats ur opinion, are u with it or against it and why?
and if ur supporting this, how can we make it happen?
with all do respect for all non-arab countries, no offence.

nobody: i'm not talking about the english version, i'm comparing us to the international versions of y!answers so why not arabic?it has nothin to do with where arabic stand, ex.philipines or singapore... dont u think there are more arabic speaking users who deserve that too.
swirly: why not ask and make something like a petition where we all(arabs) sign it together to give yahoo an estimation about how many arabs will use it.
foofoo: yes many of us get reported for that, although it happens in other languages alot, and we dont report them. we dont need any kinda PR, yahoo is a business and we are "consumers" they cant differentiate between races when "selling", they only need to know there are many arabs here foofoo.
kalooka: i agree with u and love ur idea, so why dont we be the first to initiate this? why dont we be the first to work for this and make it happen?people from other countries came here to find a customized y!answers made for them,we want that we should act!

Maged: well i wasnt talking about another site outside of yahoo, i meant suggesting to yahoo to add a version for us, and ur right why not us too? we deserve that like everyone else.
about knowing the language we use, well u have no idea how many people use yahoo answers to ask for arabic translation, really its a huge number, specially after whats happening in the world nowadays, people became aware about the arabs and their language, all we need is tell yahoo about it, we should tell them we can creat another market for them.

you're so right, I agree and am totally with you on that one!
but just for the record, yahoo is an American site.. do you really think if ALL of us ask for an arabisized yahoo, they'll give us one?!
Politics get into every detail of our lives, even on the internet lol
Just like how it differs to register yourself on hotmail ( if you write that you're American, you get more storage space and I've tried it myself)
Hope it works, am with ya!

Hi Yasmine. Thats a very good question but before answering i need u and everyone to check this yahoo site: http://world.yahoo.com and watch the world map carefully. Now what did u find? Let me tell u: Every continent has some countries' names located on it which means that people of these countries have their own yahoo in their own language (i hope u get what i mean) EXCEPT Africa and the other arab countries are blank. I wonder that maybe someone told them that we r still riding camels in Africa and dont know anything about internet or computers?
I also want to tell u and Kalooka that it is illegal to work on a trademark like Yahoo! in Egypt or any other country without having a license from the mother company.
To No body (habib albi how r u?) Of course English is the most spoken language now but what about chinese, korean, indian, russian and many other languages? R they widley spoken? No they arent so the question is now why do they have their own customized yahoo and we dont? I really cant find an answer to that question. Maybe they dont know what language do we speak?! Maybe Africa and Arab countries r very small on the map (or at least thats how they c us?) I really cant find an answer.
SALAM

Yes, I definitely think there should be an Arabic Yahoo Answers. I agree that there are some for languages that are not as popular or as spoken or Arabic. After all, it is the sixth language of the world, highly spoken around the world, and an official language of the UN. I really don't know why they will not consider it. Wow! Reported for an arab word!! OMG! That's such a stereotype! What do they think we're talking about? Terrorist activities? I'm totally with it. I don't know how we can make it happen. It's kinda hard to persuade or even contact the Team. Inshallah they will do it one day. Maybe when Arabs get good PR around the world and people stop thinking that we are terrorists. Of course, no offence to anyone. Take care. Salam.

Let's face it. English is the language of international communication. If you have an important question , and you want the largest number of people to see it so that you have the best opportunity for a good answer, then you are going to need to post it in English.
The language thing is a bigger issue than Yahoo Answer. And you know that in the past , when the Arabic civilization flourished, Arabic was the number 1 language. But now it is English. It is something sad. I know. But it is something that we have to live with.
What can be done is that another site issues a similar service like Yahoo Answer. This way Arabs can use it freely. As a matter of fact, I bet there is something like that , and I bet it is not successful, for the reason I mentioned before.
cheers

While it sounds convincing to Arabic speakme groups. I consider the vigor of Yahoo Answers is the range of the solutions you get from one of a kind men and women of one of a kind backgrounds and nationalities. In an Arabic or another language certain Yahoo Answers variant, you attain comfort however lose variety and expertise.

I think that if many Arabic speaking people email Yahoo with suggestions that would help. If Yahoo does not feel there is a market for something they will not produce it. It is about the money. It is funny though becuase most Arabic speaking countries have alot of money and many people use the internet in Egypt, Saudi, Bahrain, etc.....

i thought about that a lot, and still do. there was somebody 2 months ago who asked a similar question "Is there something like Yahoo Answers in Arabic?" (nobody answered except me, with the opinion of sharing the answerer to see it in arabic soon) and i find that a great idea, to the extent that i started asking my IT colleagues about it.
I think that it should be made locally, by someone egyptian, same idea of yahoo answers but local in arabic.
It can be done, somehow it is costly, for individuals to do but if sponsored by a wealthy company such as Vodafone or Mobinil, it would worth a thousnd ad. and it will be very popular in Egypt. and i expect that it will be on the newspapers as the users will participate by the millions.
Hope this is done in my life :-)

May I ask what is the purpose of having Y!A in any particular language? Isn’t the greatest thing about internet an opportunity to talk to people from all over the world? If we all decided to stick to sites in our native languages, we would be limited only to our own community. I personally think that the most important thing is to talk to all the people, no matter of their nationality, race or religion. To talk to all the people with no limits.
But if we want to communicate with people from the whole world, we need some kind of a universal or international language. I suppose everyone would prefer his or her native language to be that (if nothing else, then because he or she is most fluent with it), but it happens to be English. Now we can accept that or we can refuse it and stick to our native languages. But in that case we won't be able to communicate with people from other cultures and I think this is much more important than what language we use. As long as we (are willing to) understand each other.
Don't get me wrong, English is not my mother tongue and I am not the "lucky" one that already has her mother tongue on Y!A. But I am not even interested in that, as I prefer to be able to talk to people from all over the world, not only from my own community.
Anyway, I am not against this idea (who am I to be?), I just want to point out positive effects of participating at international sites like this one.
And as I already know what objections there will be, I will add a few more things…
First of all, I know that people who have Y!A in their particular language drop by to the international Y!A. Occasionally. So, yes, we could still communicate to each other, but I believe that would be in a much less extent, as there will be a much less amount of international communication.
The other thing, I know that there are people who don't speak English. But it is even more important for them to participate at international sites because that will make them learn English. And they will surely benefit from that, not because it is English, of course, but because it is some kind of an international language nowadays.
Finally, what people mention here about being reported for using Arabic... People get reported for using any other language than English, not only Arabic. And people don't report them for using Arabic particularly, but because they cannot understand what those people are saying. For example, you keep reading a question and then an answer, even pretty long, and at the end of it there is a sentence or two in a foreign language that you don’t understand and you miss the point! In such occasions I also wish to report the person that answers like that, but I feel sorry to do that. But not everybody has mercy. So, don't take everything personally. People get reported and even suspended for using other languages, not just Arabic. I know some cases of this kind.
Let me repeat once again, I believe the most important thing here is not the language, but the opportunity to talk to all the people, no matter of their race, nationality or religion. For this reason, I just believe it would be better for all of us to stick to the same place.

Well, Yahoo doesn't have many arabic people to develop an Arabic version of yahoo. May it be messenger, yahoo answers, mail or whatever. That's why.
