1997 Chevrolet S10 v6 Pickup Wont Start

I was driving down the freeway and the truck felt like it was intermittently losing power and finally it stalled. I came to a stop and tried to restart the truck. It was turning over and every few seconds it sounded like it firing. I dont have the tools to check fuel pressure but I did jump the fuel pump test lead and I hear a slight hiss coming from the front end and I am assuming there is pressure. What else can I check for on this vehical?

I replaced the fuel pump, relay, and fuel filter about 3 month ago from a previous problem.

Thanks for you responses.

Yes, it was raining, it was storming. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor and it started right up. Thanks for you help.

when you were driving down the freeway, when it was losing power, if it was surging a little bit. Then you need to replace the Dist. Cap and Dist Rotor. They can easily be checked, by loosening the two screw on the cap, an turning it over and looking at the contacts inside the cap. They are probably corroded. I'm gonna guess it was probably raining when this happened. If it was damp outside, then I would start with those two items. Wouldn't hurt to do the plugs, if they haven't been changed in a while also.

you need a fuel presssure gauge for this, it might need 10 psi to run and the pump might be at 5 psi, check your fuel shut off switch, did you run out of gas? gauge might be off, plug wires nice and tight? check your fues for it, most of the time it is the fuel injectors, i`m guessing it is the vortec, they are about $500-$1000. good luck.

I had a similar problem and it was actually a computer component that had to do with the fuel. I can remember the name of it but it was almost a thousand dollars to have fixed.

Probably your coil is not operating properly. Or maybe there is not enough gasoline in the chamber for the spark plugs to ignite.
