Cats are generally pretty clean and do not need regular bathing unless they become dirty or have a skin condition. General bathing can be done once a month. For a basic cleaning an over-the-counter pet shampoo will work. Avoid using human shampoos and other human products as they are much too harsh. If your pet has a skin condition, then a special treatment by your veterinarian is wise since special shampoos may be needed for treatment.

Absolutely but depending on the cat's age and whether or not she has sharp or cut claws, I think I would use protective gloves at first. All cats are scared their first few times bathing but after a while, especially if bathing started as kittens, the animal will actually grow quite fond of bathing. To lessen scratching, I always bathe my Siamese in water up to his breastbone. He's more likely to splash me than scratch me that way. Also when bathing, find a shampoo suited to the cat's coat. My favorite place to shop is listed below. Also, contrary to what people believe, cats need to be bathed just as any of animal needs a bath, only cats need to take them less often, regardless of fur length.

yes. but be careful, they don't like baths and will probably try to kill you. Hold firmly by the scruff, may take two people. Cats generally do a good job of keeping themselves clean. If he has long hair you can help by keeping him brushed. Be sure a bath is strictly necessary before you put him and yourself through this ordeal, he won't thank you for it.

you could, but unless a cat becomes muddy or otherwise horribly soiled it's unneccesary. cats are self cleaning! most hate water and will scratch the crap out of you if you try. cats are among the cleanest of creatures and other than brushing a long haired to keep it mat free require little help in grooming.

Sure, but it's best to have a friend or spouse help because most cats, if given the chance, would rather run away.

You can if it's totally necessary (like it felll into oil or something). Otherwise, leave it alone. They're self-cleaning unless very sick.
You will probably need one person to hold it down (talk soothingly all the while, but it prob. won't listen) and one to do the lathering and rinsing. Be careful not to get soap in its eyes, and don't let it get chilled.
