Smoking does not lower the effectiveness of the pill, patch, or shot. It increases the chance of BC KILLING you! BC has a risk of blood clots. Smoking significantly increases these risks.
The patch has been recalled. The shot is obnoxious.
Try Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for your first go-round. It has low hormones and will ease cramps. It also regulates your cycle VERY well.

15 years old and smoking? That doesnt make sense. What is wrong with people these days? Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in the world. Do you want to die? I can't understand why people would even start to smoke. Can you not see that the only reason tabacco is legal is b/c people are making billions and billions of dollars off of it. I understand your young and teenagers have a I dont care attitude, but Im 17 not much older then you and I can comprehend that if I smoke I am going to die. The majority of people are not dying b/c of violence and cars accidents, they are dying b/c of the companies that are making money off of these cancer sticks. Money is the only reason and youve fallen into their traps. Why do you think marijuana is illegal? B/c they havent found a way to make money off of it yet; no ones gnna buy something they can grow so easily. You say you're looking for help? Here some.

Why don't you try to quit smoking? That will kill ya all by itself, let alone while on the pill... If you smoke and need birth control, use condoms. You don't want to end up with a blood clot or something! What are you going to do when you actually get pregnant someday? Still smoke? Just quit now and save your life! THen you can be on whatever pill you want to be on!

Use condoms 100% of the time, to prevent pregnancy and most sexually transmitted infections.
Hormonal birth control that includes estrogen (the pill, patch) are not for smokers, nor do they don't protect against any STIs.
Hormonal birth control that is progesterone only (the shot, "mini" pills) are OK for smokers, however they are shown to have detrimental effects to bone density and are highly discouraged for young people, where bone density growth (which essentially ends around age 35) is really crucial. This type of BC also doesn't protect against STIs.
Overall, the best thing for you is to quit smoking, it is really harmful for your lungs, and it also works against building bone density.
If you are going to be sexually active, use condoms 100% of the time, even if you do decide to quit smoking and start hormonal birth control. You should also seriously consider getting the HPV shot as well, as soon as possible.
good luck.

You should not be smoking. You are putting your life at risk. You won't be able to use the patch either since you smoke. If you plan onhaving kids some day you shouldn't smoke anyway.
