I am looking to get a computer. I currently have a laptop from 4 yrs ago and am frustrated at how slow it is. I do not game, but want a fast computer I can run several programs on without waiting a long time. I also want something that I won't have to upgrade for a while. How does this look for specs? It is a Dell E520 btw.

PROCESSOR Pentium® D Processor 915 with Dual Core Technology (2.8GHz, 800FSB) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition
UPGRADE TO WINDOWS VISTA Express Upgrade MEMORY 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs
HARD DRIVE 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
GRAPHICS CARD Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3000 SOUND Integrated Sound Blaster®Audigy™ HD Software Edition

Also, is duo core the way to go? I know it is better than P-4, but does it matter if I am not gaming? I don't want to have to update it in the near future, and thought it might be a safe way to go.
Thanks in advance!

Cost is about 710 before tax w/ free shipping. No monitor- I bought one already. It is a deal w/ 10% off through school and another 150 off deal. I dont think I can pass it up....

Looks pretty good to me, what's it cost?
And yes, dual core is the way to go. Dual core is something all PC's will eventually transition to--best get on the train now.

This seems like a good deal, but if you go to Dell's website, you can put the same features together and it will come out at a cheaper price. Go to this website link that I provided and build your own. Use the E520 Versatile Multimedia option for $669, which will give you the option for the Pentium D 915. I put it together with your features and it came out to $624 before taxes with free ground shipping. Make sure you click on No Monitor when you come to it. It will subtract $180 for you. I hope this helps!

There is another coupon for 20% off $999, so if you are looking to get a little more for your money, check it out at http://www.24houredeals.com/dell-coupons-23-mer.html

Your total cost might go up to about $800 if you can submit options right at the $999 level. Good Luck.

Yes that those are fine specs for a computer. For me, personally, I would go with a P4.

I have 2 Dell laptops, and 2 Dell desktops, and they run great!

Computer A for sure. THe Core 2 DUO is the best you can get and 4GB memory is top of the line. A is the better choice especially for gaming.
