I had to go to one today and was wondering why they draw so much blood. The nurse drew 33 tubes of blood from me.

It all depends on the types of testing they are doing on you and your baby. It also could be that they want to get all blood tests out of the way at once and each vile has a different place to be sent for the tests. I visited a maternal fetal specialist all through my pregnancy and only had blood drawn once. Although it was a lot, I found it easier than getting poked every other week.

Yup. I have epilepsy and they had to do a number of ultasounds and blood tests to make sure both of my boys didn't develop Spinal bifida because of the meds I am on.

They draw alot of blood to perform every test in the book! So rest assured if there is something there they will find it. If all comes back negative you are almost assured a healthy baby. I had two!

I wonder if you had a couple cycles of bleeding where you didn't know you were pregnant already, and are further along than previously thought. The ultrasound will take longer as they carefully measure everything with good equipment.
