What from? The MP3 format is not a file type that can be executed so is unlikely to harbour a virus or other infection.

If you meant protect from other users on your PC, I'd suggest you make the files read only or set the file permissions (if using NTFS file system) so that only you have full control, and deny other users access as you wish. There's loads of info on this sort of thing on this site and on Google.

If you meant protect as in backup, take data backups of your files regularly onto DVD or CD whatever your system will write to.

copy them all and keep them on a removable drive like a SD card or a Sandisc card or buy a removable small hard-drive from Office Depot-

Basically anything on your PC that is improtant- keep a copy off your PC to be careful- it would suck to lose a bunch of music and have to do it all over again- or to lose your pictures- files that are important. So don't just back up on your PC- make removable copies. Ask at your local PC store or wherever they will have something in your price range

if ur using i tunes lastest verson u can do a back up on to an mp3 cd , which is just an ordery cd but it cruches them all onto one disk

back up your computer. go to start; all programs; accessories; system tools and click on back up then all your computer files are protected and are backed up.
