Or do you want to be an Owner-Operater? You have the responsibility of your own truck (and sometimes the trailer) and with a good dispatcher, where you get to go. Then once you decide you like the profession you can always get your own authority. Book your own loads, and build your own company, which really isnt hard to do but it takes a lot of hard work and money. Think about it, large fleets like Landstar get cheaper fuel advantages which allows them to take loads at a lower rate per mile. When youre paying your own truck and or trailer payment/insurance/authority, it all adds up. The insurance prices will scare you for sure but dont let that discourage you. Its hard to make it in the business because brokers usually dont pay for 30 days unless they have a quick pay system, but there are factoring companies out there like Freight Revolution who cater to the small companies without contracts or a monthly minimum. (For everyone else theyre referral only so call 866-811-2323 and tell them 1740 sent you,theyre a life saver) Getting money now or getting money in a month can make or break you especially when you have to pay for your own fuel (Owner Operators) OTR Company drivers dont have time for girlfriends or family if theyre staying busy. This is one career that needs help almost everywhere in the US. If it appeals to you , go for it. It's not for everyone and thats why they always seem to need more drivers. US goods move by truck. and the demand for drivers has given good wages.

It can pay well enough if you get with a good company but is very lonely. Takes a special kinda person to be able to do it long term.
