It is a product of the soap your natural oils and the fact that a white face cloth has been bleached and as the bleach is washed off by the soap it wants to revert to its "natural" color. Try bleach to get them as white as they can be. Oh my gosh that sounds like a comercial (move over Billy Mays) crawlers comin man

High iron in the water can turn your white articles brown. You can add bleach to your wash water and that should help. You might consider having your water tested by an outside source, or contact your water company. (if you are on a metered system and receive a monthly water bill) If you are on a well, you could talk to a company that deals with water wells and see if they have any ideas.

The cuplrit is built-up face oils. Try using dish washing soap on the rags first - work into the fabric then launder normally. Dish washing detergents are de-greasers; they break-down oils.

I have noticed this too. The only way I've been able to remove the stains is by soaking them in a strong solution of chlorine bleach and hot water. (1 cup bleach to @2 quarts water)

Use bleach and soak them. Or better yet soak them in vinegar.
If you can find a vinegar website they have awesome solutions for many things!
