I think it is a depressing time of year also. It seems people have more to deal with these days, work pressures, family pressures. Alot of people myself included tend to get depressed around the holidays. Some people say its nonsense get over it, but depression seasonal or not is hard to deal with. The holidays are hard because everyone is rushing around more than ever, buying the perfect gift, food, etc., and completely forgetting about what matters most. It also seems tragedy and heartache strikes more around the holidays. But mostly it can be a very lonely time of year, even if you are in the presence of friends and loved ones.
I hope the best for you this Holiday! I do understand being depressed.

We wait and prepare for the holidays for months and then in one day the built up anticipation and excitement is over. We worry about what we get people, are schedules are busy, the weather is changing and getting cold so we don't get as much sunlight, our families can be hard to deal with during this stressful time... the list goes on.

Because commercialism has taken so firm a hold that the average consumer cannot afford to do what they would like to do and not over spend. Add that to the fact thatmany people feel like they are not living up to their potential in general and you can see why suicide rates are up at this time of year.

Because it's a time of family and money. And some people have neither. It's a depressing time for those who can't go home or those who don't have a home to go to. Also, it means spending money and debt is incredibly depressing.

I agree with the "over expectations" idea. I personally don't pay it much attention. I just enjoy the sales to buy for myself and others...who REALLY need something!
