why do people wed? is it important to wed?if so why?

Sometimes it's because they're expected to, sometimes it's because they think it might make a relationship better. Sometimes it's because they want to start a family, sometimes it's to get out of a family. Yet other people marry because they love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together, with legal benefits.

I got married the first time at 23 and I got married becuase it was expected of me and because I wanted a baby. I married a lawyer and thought that he would be a good provider and would be stable. We were divorced last year after 18 years of marriage and three children because he was a lying son of a *****, cheating, cheap bastard who physically and emotionally abused me and our daughters.

I will marry again in a few months for the right reasons. I can financially take care of myself and my children (because God knows I get no child support). I don't want another child, so I am not getting married to legitimize that. I am marrying this man because I want to always be there for him. I want to share his life and his name. I want to be a part of him. I am marrying for the right reasons this time. He is the most important person in the world to me. He is a good man and I am so proud to be with him.
