some states have a new hire registry, and they should be able to work a lot faster than just "calling his employer". If the employer is actively conspiring with the parent to hide the child support, they can get the employer on that.
First off, have they yanked his driver's license? Most of the time, the state can do that if he is in arrears, and they will not reinstate it until a set amount of fixed payments have been made. Also they can intercept tax refunds, lottery winnings (I love this notion that deadbeats all of a sudden become lucky in the lottery; hasn't happened to me yet), all sorts of things.
You also have a couple of options. One is to file a civil or a criminal contempt of court charge against him for failure to pay child support. This is a last option, but from the looks of things you may not have any other choice.
If they do catch up to him, the judge can force him to post a bond against the child support as well as any sort of bond for release, so you know that he will at least have that if he gets pulled over by Officer Friendly.

That is exactly what happened to me! I'd like to say there is something you can do, but the state is just useless at finding him before he quits his job and runs off so they cannot garnish his wages.

I gave up. But, you may try Supportkids or another private organization. They take a fee but you'll still get more than nothing.

They are supposed to check with social security to trace his SS# and can see where he is working.. if he works legally. And if he owes any child support, the IRS will not give him his full return if he owes child support. Not sure what state you live in, but this is how it is usually done. Call your local SS office and see what they have to offer you for information.
