I took an IQ test and it gave me a score of 98, so am I an idiot?

90-110 is the average range score for most IQ tests. So 98 means you are of normal intelligence... I'm not sure the range of an idiot, but i do know that below 70 means that you tested in the mentally handicapped range. So I am pretty sure you are not an idiot.
My question is this... why is this number so important to you? It is just a number, and depending on your emotions that day, it is a snapshot of your abilities on one day at a given time. Do not let this number make you hold back on reaching for whatever dreams you have. Do not let this number make you think you are any smarter or not as smart as you were the day before you learned it.

Most IQ tests peg 100 as average, and they are only accurate within the areas they test to within a few points; that is, there is no difference at all between 98 and 102, so you are, according to that test, exactly average. But, except for messing with your ego, I can't imagine what difference this score makes to you. It certainly shouldn't alter your plans for what to do with your life.

I have approximately the same IQ as you. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degrees plus about 30 semesters hours on top of that. I have been teaching for 38 years and 6 years ago I was named one of Ohio's top teachers. IQ is not the problem, it is your attitude and your willingness to work that will make you successful.

Half of all test-takers should find their scores to be within the 80-120 range, which is an average intelligence

i think 100 is about average BUT... IQ testing (even if done professionally and not online) is not necessarily a true measure of intelligence.
Remember IQ testing doesn't account for a wide range of intelligent abilities such as musical ability.
So even if you got 98, remember it may not account for your other attributes!

It probably meant you took one of those online tests that focus mainly on math and reasoning. They are inacurate.
