It actually depends on what type of double-sided dvd.

DVD-10 holds 8.75 GB with 4.38 GB on each side.

DVD-14 holds 12.33 GB with 4.38 GB on one side and 7.95 on the other side.

DVD-18 holds 15.9 GB with 7.95 GB on each side.

roughly 8.4gigabytes or 8.4 thousand megabytes. It is known as a dual-layer disk. if you are burning movies go with DVD-R. if data both will do.
