My friend was offered this great job making like $60,000 a year and she didn't take it. Why would someone do this? She says she didn't want to move away, but she could always visit. Has anyone been in this situation?

I did the same thing, only I took a job at only 25% of what I would have made in Seattle (it was more than the 60K she's talking about). But my decision was based on what was the best for my daughter and what I wanted to do. I really like where i live in oregon and while I liked Seattle, it wasn't the same.

Bottom line - money really isn't everything. Count yourself lucky to have a friend who values your friendship more than she does a job. If she was capable of earning 60K in Portland, she's capable earning it where you are too.

She's not crazy. Maybe she likes where she lives now.

$60,000 isn't that much at all, and it's certainly not enough to make you move to a city/state you hate.

Not at all. She weighed up the pro's and con's and made her decision. Money should not be the sole basis for making a choice. Friends and family may be much more important to her. Your responsibility is to support her decision.

No she's not crazy...just living the life she wants to live.
Leave her alone.
