The reason I ask that is because they are the only really good suspenseful, unpredictable, scary, and truly new movies out there in the category. Americans are almost entirely incapable of making anything that isn't entirely predictable, slow moving, or simply a rehash of the another movie with a new title, or some tiny twist that derives a new character for the exact same plot and storyline. US movies are unintelligent stiff cyclic extremely predictable and cheesy. They're jammed with too much action, too many over-the-top theatrics, b/c Americans can't think and watch at the same time, so they need a lot of flashy cinema to keep their simple minds interested. So I'm just wondering if anyone has seen a real movie that is good and original even if it isn't European or Asian. I just want to know, and maybe get some reccomendations....

I COMPLETELY agree with you. I love foreign films. I'm really into Asian films right now and I've seen a lot of Korean dramas. American movies always have to have that Hollywood happy ending. But in an Asian movie, if the character has a disease, they will DIE. In an American movie, if the character has a disease, they will have a MIRACULOUS recovery and makeout with their lover in front of a sunrise with birds flying in the background and amazingly cheesy music playing.

Asian & European movies are just so much more REAL and BELIEVABLE. Even if an ending is sad, I'll be so much more satisfied than if it had just been some lame spoon-fed ordeal.

For example, in a Korean drama I watched, the poor family actually looked POOR. They wore crappy clothes, had crappy hairstyles, and a really really crappy house. Their house was crammed, messy, and filled with junk and cheap stuff. And then, you get an American movie such as Maid in Manhattan. In this movie, Jennifer Lopez plays a minority MAID who works in a HOTEL. She is supposed to be POOR. And yet, when you watch scenes that take place in her home, her apartment looks as if she hired an INTERIOR DESIGNER. Everything is arranged just so. It disgusts me.

Also, just compare the Korean movie Il Mare to its American remake, The Lakehouse. Ugh. I originally watched Il Mare and when I saw The Lakehouse. . .I can't even talk about it. . .It's a disgrace to Il Mare. And, again. The original Korean version is a lot more real, with really beautiful but less cheesy cinematography.

You can also compare American remakes of Asian horror movies, such as The Grudge and The Ring. Watch the original Asian versions, they are MUCH scarier.

Movies I'd recommend are:
Shutter- A scary Thai horror movie
Tale of Two Sisters- A scary Korean horror movie
My Sassy Girl- Korean movie
Daisy- Korean movie
. . .ing- Korean movie
Azumi- Japanese movie
Beast & the Beauty- Korean movie
Sad Movie- Korean movie
The Classic- Korean movie
Il Mare- Korean movie

Peace!

Well, Ong Bak was good from Thailand, and the Japanese original of The Ring called Ringu was pretty good. Also, that one coming out soon called Pan's Labyrinth, from Spain, is going to be awesome. I'm also excited for INLAND EMPIRE (David Lynch) and Mimzy (Robert Shaye); those are both American though. There are some really good American made films that fall into those genres, you just have to dig underneath the glittering Hollywood surface.

Yep, I saw My Sassy Girl a few months ago and it was soooo good! Very original and unpredictable. It's a romantic comedy which typically isn't usually my style but I really enjoyed it. I looooove the Japanese thrillers like Ringu.
