Growing up I always believed that I was genuinely interested in the sciences, particularly laboratory work.

Now that I'm in college, I have not enjoyed nor have performed well in my science courses (i.e. Chemistry, Biology, etc.)

BUT ---I wanted to major in a science just so I could hopefully find a Secure job but not necessarily for my own personal fulfillment.

My real passions are Music and History, but WHAT THE HECK can I really do with majors in those subjects.

I may seem close-minded, but please---Enlighten me.

Well, there must be a reason you started it. Stick to that reason and forget about enjoying it for a while. Studies are not always about enjoyment. If you want to achieve something, sometimes you need to sacrifice things. Simple like that.

Turn your other interests and passions into hobbies so that you don't regret your choice. You can live it out parallel to your professional life... sign up for a weekend history class or club, make music at home in your free time. People don't have to be boring, even if they work in a lab.

And, stick to your initial choice. You started it, stick to it. I am not saying this is always the best choice but sometimes we need to be practical and pragmatic.....

Statistically most people don't actually use their majors in their career. If you cannot enjoy nor succede in your major I would not do it. There are pleanty of science related career fields that you can go into that are all very different from each other. If you enjoy History there are great professions in teaching, such as being a high school history teacher, or a college history professor. There are good jobs mixing music for bands if your good at it. I would take a look at your college catalogue and see if there isnt anything else you may be interested in. I got tired of my computer degree, dropped it and bounced around in other majors finally settling in accounting, so who knows. You may just find something you enjoy.

I included a link to a website that has some science careers listed that you may want to look into.

Do U mean, "If U Don't Enjoy It, and Don't Do Well In It" Now, will it get better? Why do it if U don't have to? Many peeps do things they don't enjoy & can't aford 2 hire someone. Or they do it 4 the money. Let's asume U go 2 college 2 do what U enjoy. Why do it if U don't enjoy it or aren't good at it. Asume there is incentive 2 do well. Do U want 2 do job / career U don't like? Seems U need 2 b good enuf do job & keep it. Problem is U like History & Music but don't know if U can do it as career. Ask peeps who do that how they got started. It's called an information interview! Try it.

You should not major in something you don't enjoy. You'll only be miserable down the road.

Talk to an advisor. Maybe he or she can point you towards a specific area of music or history that you could focus on and find a job in. An advisor should also be able to give you a list of jobs that each major is qualified to do.

I would still think about minoring in the science though if you can tolerate it. Minors look good to employers, plus it may be a good partner with whatever you decide to major in.

I really think that you are going to have to do what makes you happy. If not you will resent what you are doing in life and not be happy. I think that with music and history you can teach, you can perform if you play, you can also combine the two by going into music history. I think that you will have to do some searching to see what's out there in the fields that you like. As far as a secure job goes, no job is as secure as it once was. I think if you prepare yourself with knowledge (learn to invest), and the attitude that you will succeed you can find ways to live life and not have to rely on a certain job for security.
Good luck to you in whichever you choose.

It may seem like a very tough decision to make, but remember it's your life. Right now you are going to college, and these classes that you do not like seem like a drag...can you imagine one day working in a field you dont like? My advice, and i have this same problem with my husband, is study what makes you happy, something you think you enjoy and be able to wake up everyday and not feel miserable about. You like Music and History , have you ever considered Secondary Education? Also, Grad School would give you broader working options. Good luck=)

I would change my major. If you interested in music and history you could teach those subjects by making your minor education or the other way around.

Talk to a school counsler and get some advice.

Well its entirely up to you and what you really want to do. Do you want to get stuck in a "secure job" for the rest of your life that you hate? Or do you want to do something you really enjoy? Making money isn't everything you know. Go with what you enjoy doing now so you don't regret it later. Besides, most college graduates end up in jobs that have nothing to do with what they majored in. I majored in Clothing, Textiles & Design and now work in accounting for a custom home builder. So you never know.

I think that you have to be happy with what you do. If your not happy with your job, you'll just end up being unhappy. It is good to get a secure job, but you'll regret it for the rest of your life for not following your true passion.

you're going down the wrong road by majoring in something you hate.

you can teach with majors in music and history---and while teaching doesn't pay as much as some other jobs---if you don't live extravagantly you can live well on a teacher's salary.

take my advice---major in something you like. don't do like i did and go for the 'secure' major. you'll end up hating your job more and more with each passing year.
