If you really want a foundation instead of a tinted moisturiser - better for everyday wear, not so good for special occasions - then I've yet to find one better than Bobbi Brown's Oil-Free Even Finish Foundation, which is SPF15 which makes me love it even more. I have an oily t-zone but dry cheeks and it lasts for HOURS on me - went to a club and came home at 5am, didn't go to sleep, went to a 9am lecture and got told I looked like I slept well! Hilarious. So, yes, I recommend the Bobbi Brown. Find a department store with one of their counters in it and ask if you can try it out before you invest as it's not the cheapest one out there.
Failing that, Max Factor is ok, doesn't have the same longevity though.

Go to a major Department Store that has a make up counter. Try Clinique for combination skin. Works wonders for me, lasts a long time and is only around $19 a bottle.

I really like Mary Kay's Medium Coverage Foundation. It is liquid. I like their cream to powder, too, but the liquid foundation is more flexible. you can make it thinner or thicker depending on the coverage you need. Try putting it on with a blush brush (not a big powder brush). It takes practice, but looks awesome when you get the hang of it. It is oil-free and won't break you out, but even my driest skinned customers love it. Plus, if it doesn't work, you can exchange. Mary Kay guarantees ALL of their products.

i have a very similar skin type and found that none of the drug store cosmetics worked for me, they either dried out my skin or made me break out. finally i found origins nude and improved foundation and its great, totally works with combination skin and stays on all day...its a little pricey (17 a tube) but it lasts a few months and you dont need to put a ton on. hope that helps.

It's better to use an oil-free water based foundation always. Just wear an appropriate moisturizer underneath.

I like L'oreal Ideal Balance. It's great because it doesn't add oil to your face or make it look shiny, but it goes on smooth- even in dry patches that would normally peel.

Loreal Tue Match. http://www.lorealparisusa.com/truematch/index.asp
I have warm-cool tones as well and this is the only one I've found to match. My shade is in Cool (***blue). I'm pretty sure they all have varying dots in different colors, that's what that was for.
