My parents have galvanized plumbing in their home. The house was built in the early 1900's. They have fixed up alot of the home, but the plumbing is last on the list.

Today they lost their hot water - right before Christmas. Super bad timing.

My husband and I want to give them a monetary gift to help cover the cost...if not the whole cost.

Does anyone know how much this will cost?
Or, if you've had similar work how much you paid?

THANKS!!

It's going to cost a fortune if they need the whole house done and are having to hire a professional to do it. The cost of copper piping has gone up quite a bit this year and appears to be going higher. http://www.plumbingsupply.com/copperpipe.html will give you an idea of the cost just for the piping alone. You can also go to your local box store and check their prices on piping, elbows and hangers.

Your best bet is to get some plumbers in to give you estimates.

Well, a plumber will cost about $17 - $30 an hour for their labor. Then you still have to buy the pvc, glue and primers, pipe dopes, kitec or copper, kitec or copper fittings, pvc fitting, tubs, showers or tub/shower combos and plumbing fitures. Ask a friend or family member if they know a great plumber. Maybe they can help you out some more, with supplies and labor. Whoever does your work, make sure they are licenced with your state's plumbing board. Good luck.

sounds like your parents just have a broken water heater...in which case you can go to your local lowe's or home improvement store and price out which size water heater they would need. honestly they are going down in price all the time and you would probably be able to get one between 100-200 dollars again depending on the size, make, and model. also i know that some home improvement stores offer workshops or classes that may help you to do the installation yourselves. it really isn't that hard just need to know the steps. good luck and i hope you find what you are looking for=) you do NOT have to replace your copper pipes with copper can use other things just need to consult a local creditable plumber.
