I'm freaking confused on what is happening with immigration reform in congress. So far I think this is what is going on...the senate wants to pass a bill allowing for a guest worker program and amnesty for the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the country. The house is more hardline, i believe, and wants the border secured first. So is this correct? Also, what is the difference between the Dems and GOP stances on the issue?

Nutting happening till 2007--sorry dude. The 101st Congress has already packed and their just waiting for the moving vans to pick up their ****!! The recommendations of the 9/11 commission being initiated and carried out is the best we can hope for till after 2008. No candidate from either party is gonna stick his neck out on such an issue as to not jeopardize their party's chances at the Presidency in 2008. I would be very suprised, yet that much more encouraged, if a solution presents itself anytime before that. Securing our Borders without taking into account the Immigration issue seems impossible to me. Know this, if the GOP had a stance on the issue other than "hands off, illegals are cheap--exploitable replacement workers, reliable min. wage crop pickers, charge less to babysit my kids and clean house than child care centers and merry-maid, and do it all with out being significant at the polls" their stance will probably be whatever is opposite of the Dems.
