This depends on your reason for termination. However, as long as you havent committed some heinous act, lied in any way, or committed a felony you'd most likely win a law suit because they would settle rather than litigate. Your state may have some specific laws or regulations on this matter as well.
EEOC fact sheet: http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/fs-fed.html
You may also file a complaint with the EEOC at this link:
http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/howtofil.html
The EEOC also has some helpful info and articles to answer these types of questions and it could never hurt to call and talk to them regarding this matter.
For the legalities I have provided you with a good link for investigation into state specific laws as well as good legal referals.
My legal advice: See an attorney immediately.

In most jurisdictions an employer needs a just grounds for dismissal, and long term disability is not usually proper grounds. What reason did they give you for your termination? In any case, yes see a lawyer if you don't think they have other grounds.

I just wanted to say, it happened to me. I was forced to quit because i was sick and they were afraid i would get my benefits. I ended up on SS disability. I couldn't believe how they did me. It should be against the law. I should have checked it out. There are employment law attorneys but i was just too busy staying alive to deal with it.

It isn't against any law to be terminated for any reason other than race, creed, gender and age.
You might have a civil case but good luck proving it.

If it happened to me I would call a lawyer who specializes in employment law and ask him this question. I do not think it is legal but it would take a lawyer to do something about it.
