I took my kids to the Mall last night to see Santa and the winter wonderland they have set up there every year. This year, the first time I may remind you was far different then the last years, not just the decor, that is to be expected. No it was Santa! My kids where not aloud to sit on Santa's lap and talk to him about their Christmas wishes. I asked Santa if this was his chose and if so I would understand that, but he responded in a eye rolling answer of NO. He said, he was told this year by the Mall that he was not allowed to have children sitting upon his lap, because some people have a problem with it, not every one, but some. So now Parents like me who want the pictures with the kids setting on Santas lap, smiling that Christmas smile only he can recieve is lost? Just stand there and avoid the stranger! In this time of Political Correctness even Santa is getting fubared, I mean really what is becoming of us and the time old traditions we all grow up with and injoyed?

I am loving all these replies, and to see that it is NOT ONLY me who feels Christmas is being pushed aside for other things, I say let them have theirs, but leave mine alone too. I live in North Carolina, I have asked to speak to the Malls director, how ever, I have not been able to get thought to her, such is the time, I know... Again Thanks to all and I wish all a Very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year to you and yours

That's unfortunate. I thought Christmas was really going away in a handbag seeing the bell tollers out there ringing in just a Santa hat and no other costume. Or someone tolling with no Santa costume at all or the red bucket. :(

These are the times, like the guy said, for paranoia as well as political correctness. Everyone has a fear and somewhere it is going to swallow us up (fear, that is).

I would talk to the Head of the Mall and ask why this was done. Sitting on Santa's lap and having your picture taken is a part of the Holiday festivities, just as going to the Mall and shopping. Wonder what would happen if NOBODY went to the Mall to shop? I guess I would find another Mall to take my children to,or skip the Mall and find another place to take the children for the pictures, that is totally stupid. Where I am from, the GrandAngels were taken to a small local store which had Santa in there and for $2 you could get their picture taken ON Santa's lap. Hope you find someplace before this year is over to get it done. Merry Christmas and sorry it took away from your Family's joy,and upset your Memories, cause that is what helps make the Holidays is the Family Memories too.

That really sucks!! I can assure you that most mall Santas are indeed still allowed to sit kids on their lap and talk to them. work at the Cherry Creek Mall as a Santa's Helper, and we still do it the traditional way, with kids sitting on Santa's lap and telling him what they want for Christmas, and then I'm the one who takes the kids' pictures. I am sorry that your kids got cheated out of a time-honored Christmas tradition because of some stupid mall policy. go to www.cherryhillphoto.com, they're the people who do the Santa display I work for, and you can maybe find a mall in your area that has a nice Santa who is allowed to interact with kids!

i ran into santa problems at the local mall...the only way the kids could sit with santa was if the parents shelled out 20-40 bucks for a portrait package...my youngest was NOT pleased...we walked away and she saw some old guy with a big white beard in a jewelry store and yelled 'HI SANTA!' to him...he just smiled really wide and waved back...now she's decided she saw santa christmas shopping, so it worked out pretty well...

I'm sorry but if you are a parent who does not want your child to sit on Santa's lap, then don't wait in line to see Santa. I mean isn't that the point of seeing Santa?? I'm 24 and next week my town is having pictures with Santa to raise money for under privileged children whose parents cannot afforded to buy them gifts, and you better believe I'm going to go sit on his lap!

If you are from Cartersville, GA come on down to the old train depot on the 16th from 12-6 it is only $3.00 for one picture and $5.00 for 2!

Try some other malls in your area. Perhaps they haven't all gone over the deep end.

I would say that this goes beyond political correctness and is more akin to paranoia. We are living in an era of fear which has been created in part by global circumstance and in part by political spin. I just hope in the grand scheme of things this turns out to be a little hiccup and not a lingering trend.

I think that it is absolutely crazy that we should have to depart with our old traditions of Santa etc. I know this may sound prejudice but it is not intended. People coming into this country are trying to put their traditions. I have no problem with them keeping their traditions, but please don't let them change ours. We all have our own beliefs and Christmas is a main one. I have recently asked on a radio survey whether to change to "Happy Holidays" or keep "Merry Christmas". To me that is crazy. It's been Merry Christmas for what a thousand years, why should we change it?

they're probably looking to avoid pedophile accusations and lawsuits.

again, a vocal few ruin something for everyone.

and the Christians will add it to their fodder when they pretend they are being "persecuted."

I know, it's ridiculous. The very word "Christmas" is becoming taboo. So sad.
