How would you solve a genetic problem if a male animal has a dominant gene and is going to be single mating. How do I determine the genotype of that male?

The way to determine the genotype of an individual with the dominant phenotype is to do a test-cross. That is specifically mating the male with a female that is homozygous recessive. If he produces any offspring with the recessive phenotype, he HAS to be heterozygous.
