Red is considered to be the devils favorite color by many religions. In fact that is the origin of pink for baby girls and blue for baby boys. When a woman gave birth to a little they would wrap her in red or pink to let the devil have her when it was a boy (they believed the boys were more valuable around the farm and as a legacy) they would wrap them in blue or purple considered "holy or royal" colors.

I've only seen the original "Omen" from the 70's - which didn't use the color red significantly in it that I remember. And, I think that priest helping Mr. Thorn figure things out about Damien said that it is in the book of Revelations in the Bible that the devil would be born of a beast, or jackal specifically - which they end up finding the bones to when they dig up Damien's birth-mother's grave.

Red is the color of blood. The Anti-Christ was not born of a human. A jackal is a greedy pack animal. A nice host for the antiChrist.

red =blood most likely and the whole Jackal thing had to do with the devil.....I saw the movie but I cant remember the details.....
