Is it true that Albertson's is refusing to sell to anyone wearing a military uniform? And Starbuck's says --they do not support the war, and will not support anyone fighting in the war? Has anyone else heard of this? or is it all just rumors?

The Starbucks issue - hoax. Link # 1 lists all the current hoaxes involving Starbucks.

Regarding Albertson's, I could only find one reference and it had nothing to do with military or the war. See link 2

Yes, this seemed to smell immediately of being a hoax. I mean that decision would be as ignorant as being a member of a country music group and making remarks that would annoy the people who buy your music. ;)

Subject line: Starbucks

Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks, because they
wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and
to request that they send some of it to the troops there.

Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their
support in their business, but that Starbucks does not support
the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the
troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, we should not support them by
buying any of their products.

As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we should get
this out in the open. I know this war might not be very
popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't
support the boys on the ground, fighting street-to-street and
house-to-house for what they and I believe is right.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can
discard it and no one will ever know.

Thanks very much for supporting me, and I know you'll all be
there when I deploy once more.

Semper Fidelis.

--- End hoax email ---

Answer: We've been getting variants of this hoax email for the past two years.

Starbucks has refuted this email. Here is what Starbucks says on their website:

"Starbucks Donates to Military Personnel. As part of
Starbucks ongoing commitment to share the comfort of
coffee during times of crisis, the company continues to
demonstrate our support of the men and women serving in
the U.S. military overseas."

You can read more about Starbucks' donation policies by clicking on the "Starbucks ongoing commitment" link on this page.

We recommend you NOT pass along this email hoax.

That sounds like the stupidest PR nightmare ever. What American business says that they will "not support anyone fighting in the war"? I mean, common sense here. Albertsons might not want to sell to Dick Cheney, but there would be no reason for them to deny service to the people who are required (financially, patriotically, or otherwise) into military service.

(That's almost as stupid as the rumor about why Target doesn't want Salvation Arm bellringers at their doors -- they donated $1 million to the salvation army and are asking their customers to do the same.)

As for your first question, think about it....think about all the people who do not serve in the military...would Albertsons survive? Nope, they'd go bankrupt. As for Starbucks, it would be stupid of them to publicly announce their viewpoint on the war and lose a lot of customers, especially when they are doing so good right now.....besides, if Starbucks still did do that, i'd still have to go and get my Chai tea, no one else makes it like they do lol.

This is on the Starbucks website, it contains a letter of apology from the USMC Sergeant who sent around the first e-mail:

I can't imagine that to be true because at our area Starbucks you can send bags of coffee to the troops in Iraq as donations.
They even have photos and letters from the units thanking Starbucks and its patrons for their thoughtfulness and donations.

Rumors -- are you really so gullible as to believe this crap?

The rumors were probably started by Von's and Peet's coffee ;-)

There are no public statements of any kind from either company, or even private statements by any of their employees, confirming the above. None.

Here is the REAL information:
(Starbucks)
