I'm trying to install a new hard drive but I can't set it up because my BIOS is protected. Is there a way to install a new BIOS or bypass the password? I can't boot from either floppy or CD.

Somewhere inside your computer there is a tiny piece of plastic called a jumper (or in some cases a small switch). It should be labeled BIOS RESET or something simiar.

What you have to do is change the position of it then turn on the computer, turn it back off and change it back.

If it is a switch, then its easy, just flip the switch to the other position and turn the computer on, wait a bit turn it off and switch it back. If its a jumper, you have to look closely,. You should see a tiny rectangular piece of plastic standing up from the Motherboard, and it is held there by two metal pins, and there is usually another pin right next to it. Take the jumper off the two pins it is one, and put it back on so that it is now on one pin it was on before, and the other pin it was not on. Then turn the computer on, wait a bit, turn it back off and switch the jumper back the way it was. Now your machine should not have a password anymore.

There is one thing you need to know. All of the BIOS settings will be wiped out by this. You will need to reenter the hard drive and other info that was lost.

If you are not comfortable messing around inside your computer, find a geeky friend who knows alot about computers and have him do it. Or you could take it to a repair shop, but it would probably be pretty expensive considering how simple it really is.

One word of caution, if you aren't sure which switch or jumper to change, don't try it. Switching the wrong switch, or changing the wrong jumper could cause some serious problems. Its not likely you would burn it up or otherwise hurt the computer, but if you change it and can't remember what you did to change it back, you might never fix it.

Simple solution, but get ready to do some taking apart. You need to take part the laptop and get to the CMOS chip. It's a small lithium battery. Take it out, and wait a while then put it back. Put the laptop back together and that will flash the BIOS password. That is the only way if you dont know it. It's a pain if you dont know what you're doing, so i'd suggest to get someone with a little IT knowledge to help. Good luck

Remove battery from motherboard for 5 to 10 minutes (Because capacitors on motherboard retain some power for sometme). Be careful to unplug the system before doing that. Even static current can damage RAM/Motherboard. You can also download cmos crack utilities. Or if you have motherboard manual, you may also find a jumper setting to short battery and remove bios password.

this is very easy first you need to locate the computers battery source on the motherboard usually the battery is located by the power supply plug in all you need to do is short out the battery this means get a paper clip or a piece of wire touch the positive & negitive sides of battery sometimes the computer needs to be on when you do this but i would try it first with it off

there should be a jumper somewhere on your motherboard that you can use to reset it, this depends on your motherboard. You can also unplug the power to your computer, and then take out the battery, you have to wait awhile though, sometimes it takes a few hours...
